I'm not talking about clicking on emails and earning a penny with each - although since I'm unemployed right now I will do pretty much anything, even the mundane stuff - but real, legitimate ways to earn a few dollars here and there. Each of these "few dollars" adds up over time.
Swagbucks is a great place to start.
Swagbucks is basically a website that allows you to search the web, like Google. Every so often you will enter a search and you'll win a "Swagbuck" as a reward for using their site to search. I have earned as many as 5 Swagbucks with one search, and if you remember to use it often enough you can add 3 or 4 "Bucks" in a single sitting. It's actually pretty thrilling when you win one because you never know when to expect one - they just pop up after you enter a search.
I've enjoyed using Swagbucks to earn gift cards. It's easy, requires little thought, and the "Bucks" really do add up quickly. So far I've gotten mostly $5 Amazon e-certificates with my Swagbucks - and I've used them to order textbooks for my niece (what a great way to help a college student a little!) but there are hundreds of rewards to choose from. The fastest way to earn additional "Bucks" is to have someone sign up underneath you - then, for each Swagbuck they earn from web searches you will earn one, too, through the first 50 Swagbucks they earn. My niece signed up a few weeks ago and I've already gotten 30 swagbucks added to my account from her searches.
You can also add a small search box to your browser to make it easy to remember to use Swagbucks. Mine is set to search using the Swagbucks site all the time but I can switch it back to Google just by clicking on the selection arrow on the text box. If you want to know how to add this to your browser, I'll give the instructions in another post soon, when I talk about why you should have more than one browser on your computer (I know, you just can't wait for that post, can you?!!)
